The SCSF SLP was aimed at early academics and staff.  The first day of the course was for the presentation of theme 1 and the familiarization of participants with the presentation of the course. The course will ran from the 9th until 20th October 2023 with sessions presented per theme, in a group and in a pre-recorded online plenary style with, the latter presented by the expert in the field who will be tasked to challenge and guide the participants’ through the self - learning process.

The first expert opening presentation was by Prof Nomalanga Mkhize on the Mandela Name, Person, Intellectual legacy, and Institutional Values (Theme1). This theme of the course interrogates the idea of naming linking to identity of Mandela University, the Person and Mandela’s intellectual legacies. This attempts to create links between the institution and the Eastern Cape Intellectual Histories along with liberation histories in the African continent. Later challenging participants to interrogate their on naming links and identities.
